At Kidz in Harmony we believe that music is for everyone. Together, parents/carers and children will learn, explore and grow through singing, movement and playing instruments within a fun, safe and nurturing environment. Our music program takes a holistic and child-centered approach.
Children are born with an uninhibited appreciation for music. Music is highly motivating, engaging and fun and helps children to organise their thoughts, bodies and minds. Music is a universal language and brings people together.
Your child’s physical, emotional, cognitive, language and social skills will be developed through experiencing different musical activities.
We believe that sharing music together provides the perfect platform in which to strengthen and foster the bond between you and your child.
We run group music sessions for parents/carers and their children 0-4 years (siblings are welcome) in a specially designed music room in Bellevue Hill.
Our sessions are fun and interactive, offering great opportunities for you and your child to bond through music. Sessions are designed and run by a music therapist and joined by an experienced musician who both play all the music live.
Sessions include action songs, playing with instruments and props, movement, musical story time and lots more!
Sessions are designed to enhance your child’s listening, language, fine/gross motor skills and social development.
We run our sessions on Thursday and Friday and class times are the same for both days:
9:30am – all ages
10:30am – 18mths +
11:30am – 0-18mths
We offer a free trial session for new families.
A 10 week term costs $225, payable before term starts (classes are $25 but a 10 week term paid up front receives a 10% discount). If you know you will be away in advance we are happy to adjust the price accordingly.
Classes are $10 for siblings 6 months and over.
Our facilitators are trained musicians who play a wide variety of instruments and are passionate about sharing their love of music with families!
Music has always been a big part of Lisa’s life. She started learning the piano and violin at the age of 3, playing the violin in the Sydney Youth Orchestra all throughout her school and receiving her A.Mus.A in piano at the tender age of 13.
At the age of 14, Lisa started to teach herself guitar which began her love of playing and singing. Having previously been a classical musician, Lisa began enjoying expanding her horizons and playing a variety of genres.
She discovered the power of African rhythms and began learning the djembe, completing a drum circle facilitator training course in 2010. Lisa then travelled to Ghana in 2014 to further her studies on the djembe.
Lisa began teaching Suzuki piano at the age of 18 and found her passion for working with young children. She began her Bachelor of Arts majoring in music and education and went on to complete her Masters in Music Therapy.
Since becoming a Registered Music Therapist, Lisa has worked in the fields of aged care, in early intervention with vulnerable families and their young children, and in private practice with children with autism.
Currently, as well as being the director of Kidz in Harmony, Lisa also teaches piano at SCEGGS and is a mum to a gorgeous little girl.
Since becoming a mum herself, Lisa has experienced first-hand what a wonderful role music can play in child development and has become even more passionate about seeing families share music and grow together.
Therese Watson is a trained singer, pianist, composer and performer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from UNSW and an AMusA in Singing from the AMEB. She has performed in everything from opera concerts to rock and pop bands.
Therese’s interest in music started at a very young age, and she’d often make up songs and sing along to Play School. She began learning piano at age 5 and completed AMEB exams throughout her school years.
She has been teaching piano for 9 years at Newtown Public School and for 2 years at SCEGGS in Darlinghurst. She is also a member of the synth-pop band Enerate and the Americana outfit The Daphne Rawling Band, playing keyboards, singing, writing music and creating music videos.
Therese is an experienced event coordinator and has worked on a variety of music festivals over the years. She led the Sydney branch of Sofar Sounds for 4 years, putting on monthly lounge room and back yard gigs across the city to support the talents of local Sydney musicians.
Working with children and providing them musical exposure and training has been Therese’s passion throughout her professional career, and she has loved every moment of working with Lisa at Kidz in Harmony.
Music therapy is the planned use of music to enhance a person’s emotional, physical, social and cognitive wellbeing. Music is a unique tool that allows for therapy to take place in a safe and non threatening way. Whilst music can be structured and predictable it can also provide a safe framework in which to explore flexibility and change
